Montessori education begins with a simple idea: children are naturally curious and capable of learning when they are given the freedom, guidance and environment they need to grow.

An Approach Shaped by Observation

Dr. Maria Montessori developed her educational approach through careful observation of young children in her first Casa dei Bambini, or Children’s House.

She noticed that children became deeply engaged in activities that allowed them to explore, repeat and accomplish tasks independently. These observations became the foundation of the Montessori curriculum now practised around the world.

Montessori also recognized that young children have an absorbent mind: a remarkable ability to learn from the language, culture and environment around them. Their natural tendencies toward movement, exploration, order and repetition help guide their development.

Standing the Test of Time

Standing the
Test of Time

By respecting and responding to children’s natural tendencies, Dr. Montessori was able to create a learning environment for young children that has stood the test of time. The classroom is a prepared environment that stimulates the development of motor skills, the senses, cognition, language, hand-eye coordination, and independence. A Montessori-prepared environment encourages children's holistic development - physically, emotionally, socially, and academically.

Montessori Principles in Everyday Practice

At Little Seeds, Montessori principles guide the morning learning period. Children engage with hands-on activities that encourage concentration, coordination, confidence and growing independence.

These focused mornings are balanced with meaningful play and outdoor experiences throughout the rest of the day.
